Pixelated Sky
Two of my favorite genres I feel like playing. Shooty Skies Top down shooter gameplay proved very exciting when combined with endless runner elements and voxel graphics on the Crossy Road. How can these two elements be harmoniously combined curiously?
The patterns and types of enemies that block in each session of my game are always different. There is no exact level, as the arrival direction, type, is never the same until the pattern of enemy attacks. This tests my reflexes and decision-making skills, because the memorizing strategy here is completely useless.
I was confronted with the appearance of a boss character who was also randomized by the game, after successfully breaking through invincible enemies. I can predict the pattern of boss and attack I’ll be facing. Moreover, the boss’ ability to attack and the energy depletion he has are even more dangerous.
The surprise element is still added to the different shooter mechanisms, which increase the excitement of the game. My efforts to break down the wave of enemies are supported by special weapons, different power-ups, and the presence of partners that get rid of the enemies.
When the character touches the screen, he automatically fires his main weapon, machine gun. When you touch the screen, slid your finger changes the position of the characters on the screen. The character fills up a special weapon in a collection of rockets which are fired when I touch the screen again.
Simple Checks
These simple controls are running smoothly during the game. Characters move quickly after the finger dance on the screen with no delay. I can also concentrate on the enemies who come and go without feeling disturbed by the complexity of control through this control design.
One of the great things I remember from the Crossy Road team was the design of advertisements and IAP offers that did not interfere with comfort in the game. Indeed, placing the two elements seemed to support gameplay overall.
Shooty Skies doesn’t know the energy system, therefore I have complete control over how long I’m going to play. I can restart the game immediately after one session ends, without having to wait to recharge the energy, as in other freemium games.
