New Sequel With Improved Gameplay
We reviewed Earn To Die two years ago and gave a perfect score. There have been two years and the developer Not Doppler has returned with the Earn To Die 2 sequel. I was a bit surprised because I didn’t find much difference to the previous series when I tried it. Even the story and words of the opening are very similar. I was excited about so many new things, but the reality isn’t.
For those of you who never played Earn To Die before, it is a game that requires that you die again and again until your destination is reached. There is an increasingly rampant story in this game zombies and you have to go to the military evacuation base. But it’s all an old car that accompanies your insane journey to safety. When the game begins, the car is automatically running and you just have to balance the two buttons to the left.
Ten seconds is the time to finish your first game. Not because you’re too bad to play it, but because the petrol is actually gone in your car. The game is over, one day is over, and some money is given to you. What you do with that money is to upgrade your fuel tank, such as acceleration, maximum speed and more fuel. Little by little, death after death, your car can go beyond it.
So you can imagine this game will be boring for the first ten minutes. But when your first armor has been upgraded, Earn to Die 2 suddenly feels more exciting. Upgrades to Armor will give you a circular saw in front of your car. The zombie you have hit now splits and does not cause too much damage to your vehicle. You’re going to say, “Oh yes, I need the upgrade, which next?” After that, the boring iteration becomes interesting. Thirty minutes later you will be busy thinking about the next upgrade and trying your best to control the car to prevent too many objects and zombies.
A level ends when you reach the end line. But it’s not a process that you can go through in one go. Each level is divided into 2 control points. If the check point is reached, you will repeat from this point, even if you’re over the game. To complete one level, you might take about 30 minutes or longer and Earn to Die 2 has 10 levels to complete.
Adventure Gets More Difficult
The biggest (and maybe only) difference for those of you who first played Earn To Die is the track design. Earn to Die 2 uses branch tracks, and there are also a number of shortcuts if you are observing them.
But there’s nothing really new beyond that, and that makes me a little unmotivated for a marathon. Yes, in fact, there is a new type of vehicle and it has little effect. This is compounded by the fact that you receive a plain new car every time you enter the next level. Your cool car works before it. Though in the first Earn To Die this can be done.
There are games that use a freemium system like Earn To Die. When you’re cool, energy or upgraded cars will stop you at exorbitant prices. You are free to play whenever and as long as you want on Earn to die 2. The developer’s decision to stay premium is therefore the right decision.
This sequel will make you addicted to those of you who haven’t played Earn To Die. But I can’t say the same thing to those of you who first played Earn To Die. It appears that the developer only wants to release Earn To Die 2 for the new market without trying to serve the players who have previously played Earn To Die. Instead of adding new things, Not Doppler has chosen to add little to the whole gameplay.
